“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.”
Psalm 126:2 NIV
Think about the last time you laughed. I mean really laughed. I’m not talking about a giggle or chuckle. I’m talking about a spontaneous laugh that exits your mouth in a loud, boisterous (and often embarrassing) explosion. A guffaw. A laugh so intense that it takes over your composure for a few moments and so intense that it ignites tears of joy. As the laughter calms & dissipates, you feel spent & exhilarated. For the next few moments, your brain endorphins rein in your common sense and composure, and you begin to coast into a sense of calmness. You simply feel good.
Laughter could come from only one Source. Our Creator. So, laughter must be good for us. In Psalm 2:4 (ESV), the Word reveals that God laughs. “He who sits in the heavens laughs.” Hmmm, who or what is God laughing at? Look in the mirror.
Limitless Leaders, in your leadership journey there is a time for seriousness & a time to inject some humor. Besides, you may never know when someone is having “one of those” days or facing an internal crisis. A joke, funny story, or anecdote may be a moment away from pushing back a tear, alleviating a headache, or improving one’s entire outlook on life. And remember, a smile can be the beginning of a good old-fashioned belly laugh. You know, the kind that hurts so good!
God’s Limitless Laughter is not only for us but also, for others. Don’t let the amazing blessing of laughter be absent or hindered in your life, personally or professionally. We were made to laugh. Laughter brings joy, eases stress, & is contagious. Laughter is not listed as a Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) but its first cousin, joy, certainly is. They are of one accord.
Remember, the power of laughter. It’s free. It’s a gift. And it’s limitless.
